Light object | Special edition

Like no other artist, Pablo Picasso is the epitome of modern art. The man with the cap left an oeuvre of estimated 50,000 works.

Description

Art that has changed everything

Pablo Picasso is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. As a co-founder of Cubism, he fundamentally changed the visual habits of his time and opened up new ways of dealing with form, perspective and representation. With his extraordinary stylistic range – from the Blue and Pink periods to surrealist works – he had a lasting influence on 20th century art and left behind an oeuvre of over 40,000 works.

A painting made of glass

The PABLO light object from the ODD BIRDS collection takes up this artistic approach and translates it into the medium of glass. The body becomes the canvas: lines, surfaces and abstracted facial elements are reminiscent of Picasso’s unmistakable pictorial language.

The characteristic cap sets an additional accent and underlines the unconventional, creative expression. The result is an object that does not simply represent, but interprets – playfully, freely and with a clear creative attitude.

Each piece is unique

As with a real painting, no two objects are the same. Color gradients, lines and details are created in elaborate handwork and make each PABLO a unique piece in its own right.

The production requires a high degree of experience and precision: glass is shaped, colored and assembled in several steps. The result is an object that visibly combines artistic aspirations and quality craftsmanship. You can find out more about the production process in our article Making of PABLO | Borowski Glaskunst.

Making Of

Step by step to a glass painting

Stani Jan Borowski shows the production of a glass body reminiscent of a painting by Pablo Picasso.

Every PABLO is a handcrafted one-off. Every painting is different. You can find PABLO and many other objects from the ODD BIRDS special edition at one of our dealers near you or in our store.

First, the background color (beige) is applied to the base shape and fused

Pieces of color that are heated up and applied later gradually to the basic shape (in the order from right to left). The colors consist of concentrated colored glass.

I apply the colors yellow, green, violet, blue and red hot onto the base shape.
I spontaneously follow my imagination.

With each copy, the colors are applied in the same order.

But the "brush stroke" with the hot color is unique to each specimen.

Then it goes into an intermediate mold.

The intermediate mold is already egg-shaped and 1/3 smaller than the final mold.

The colored areas may have widened, distorted and overlapped depending on the thickness of the order.

This is a desired coincidence and makes each piece unique.
Now is the time for contours and details.

I now decorate the contours of the colored areas with black glass.

Spontaneously I add details. I make it dependent on how hot the black glass is.

Everything happens bit by bit. Depending on how hot the glass is and when the thread solidifies. Up to 20 work steps can occur.

After that, everything has to be brought back to maximum temperature.

The contours and details begin to merge with the surface.

Now it goes to the final mold.

In the final mold, the body is inflated to its final size.

Shortly after the final shape.
Wait until the body solidifies.

Into the cooling furnace.

Manual Work

A Fusion of Tradition, Craftsmanship and Innovation

Exclusive glass art from the Borowski glass factory

Each object shown here reflects the craftsmanship of our glassmakers. What appears lighthearted, playful, and full of color is in fact created through a demanding and often physically challenging production process. Today, only a small number of people and glass studios worldwide still master the traditional art of glassmaking.

At the Borowski Glass Studio, nearly all known techniques of hot and cold glassworking can be applied. This exceptional range of possibilities allows our artists to continuously develop new ideas and bring even highly ambitious, experimental visions to life in glass.

The brothers Stani-Jan, Wiktor, and Pawel Borowski learned to work with the blowpipe and molten glass from the ground up. While Wiktor primarily oversees sales, Pawel and Stani-Jan still work daily at the furnace in the glass studio themselves.

As each object is mouth-blown and traditionally handcrafted, slight variations in color, shape, and size are unavoidable. Small air inclusions in the glass are characteristic features of genuine handcrafted studio glass and should not be regarded as flaws, but rather as signs of its individual production process.

Outdoor Objects

OUTDOOR OBJECTS

SUNNY AND SAFE – IN ALL WEATHERS

The friendly figures and characters of the OUTDOOR OBJECTS ensure “fabulous” encounters in gardens and parks – in the true sense of the word. As if from another world chameleons, birds, armadillos, and all sorts of creatures appear – bringing a little piece of their world into our own. The OUTDOOR OBJECTS create a wonderful link to their environment – inviting their owners to smile, dream and linger. These highly individual, happy visitors will enliven your garden or balcony and give your favourite spot a very special magic.

The OUTDOOR OBJECTS are weatherproof and can stand outside all year long. All these art objects are handmade and hand blown with the utmost care.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When fastening your object, you should make sure that it stands securely and does not wibble or tip over, even in wind or knocks. Use the mounting eyelets we provide for this purpose. Position your object so that it is safe from falling rocks or braking branches. Keep in mind that the objects are very heavy due to their quality and protruding parts (e.g. beaks, eyes, ears, tails, crowns) are not suitable as handles.
