BUD: Cult figure with cigar and bowler hat

BUD from the ODD BIRDS collection is a tribute to Bud Spencer – and to what most people associate with him: his films alongside Terence Hill. With unconventional methods and a heart in the right place, he embodied a hard-hitting action comedian with an almost comic-book-like sense of invincibility.

The kind-hearted grumpy bear, a stubborn but righteous giant who, with a cigar in the corner of his mouth and a black bowler hat on his head, gives the bad guys a run for their money. For anyone who grew up with Bud Spencer and still smiles at the sight of him today, BUD is more than just an object of light. Not just any old piece, but one with real cult potential.

The life’s work of a multi-talent

What many people don’t know: Carlo Pedersoli was a personality who was more than just film history: a law graduate, film and television actor, successful swimmer and Olympic participant (1952 in Helsinki and 1956 in Melbourne), water polo player, musician, composer and even founder of the airline Mistral Air.

Trusted for decades

Films such as “Four Fists for a Hallelujah”, “Two Heavenly Dogs on the Road to Hell” or “Two Like Pitch and Brimstone” were the introduction to cinema for many of the boomer generation. Pithy lines such as “Has anyone ever cut your hair with a sledgehammer?” stuck with them – clear, uncomplicated and without heavy themes. With this humor and hilariously staged fights, Bud Spencer still connects generations today – from grandparents to grandchildren.

Made for Indoors and Outdoors

BUD doesn’t just feel at home indoors. As an outdoor lighting object , it is also just right in the garden or on the patio – between plants, on a wall or in a deliberately chosen spot. During the day, the shape and color are effective, while in the evening the warm light takes over and brings a calm, pleasant atmosphere to the surroundings.

An object that takes its place. And whose luminous glass colors are convincing even if you don’t know the films at all.

The plan with the stretch limo

Bud at the Summer Exhibition 2022

The ODD BIRDS traveled to the premiere of the BONZOs in an easy-going Oldsmobile. Actually, a black stretch limousine was supposed to bring the whole flock of birds to the summer exhibition in Königswinter. But BUD quickly rented an old pickup truck. UDO stayed cool and actually thought it was pretty good … Finally someone is just doing their thing again.

The second brood
Special edition ODD BIRDS

The second brood

In the summer of 2019, Stani Jan Borowski’s ODD BIRDS hatched successfully from glowing glass for the very first time. In 2020, a second brood of charismatic characters followed—each one falling out of the societal nest of “normality.” All of them are outsiders, outcasts, misunderstood, black sheep or eccentrics who made it to world fame. They captivate us, fascinate us and move us. Why? Perhaps because they ask us to stand by ourselves and courageously go our own way.

Here you can see the video produced by Stani Jan Borowski in the glass manufactory for the presentation of his "second brood".

Manual Work

Exclusive Glass Art from Borowski Glassworks: Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Innovation Combined

Each object shown here embodies the craftsmanship of our glassmakers. Behind each of the objects that appear so light, cheerful and colorful is a complex, often sweaty manufacturing process. Today only a few people or manufactories master the old, demanding craft of the glassmaker.

In the Borowski Glass Studio you can work with almost all known techniques of cold and hot glass processing - this enables the artists to realize challenging visions and constant new, experimental ideas.

The three brothers Stani-Jan, Wiktor and Pawel Borowski learned how to use the glass pipe and the glowing material from scratch. While Wiktor mainly takes care of sales, Pawel and Stani-Jan work in the factory on site every day at the glass furnace.

Mouth-blown and traditionally handcrafted glass objects may have minor color and shape deviations that are unavoidable for manufacturing reasons. Air inclusions in the glass are a sign of the handmade product and should not be regarded as a defect. There may be deviations of a few centimeters in the size specifications.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When fastening your object, you should make sure that it stands securely and does not wibble or tip over, even in wind or knocks. Use the mounting eyelets we provide for this purpose. Position your object so that it is safe from falling rocks or braking branches. Keep in mind that the objects are very heavy due to their quality and protruding parts (e.g. beaks, eyes, ears, tails, crowns) are not suitable as handles.
