Description

ARTHUR – pure chaos in glass

ARTHUR from the ODD BIRDS collection is inspired by Arthur Fleck from the film “Joker” (2019) – the character behind Batman’s arch-enemy from Gotham City. The “Clown Prince of Crime” is considered one of the most influential supervillains in pop culture.

Unmistakable down to the last detail

Pale appearance, poisonous green hair, blue-painted diamonds around the eyes and a bright red, frozen grin – ARTHUR picks up on the features that make this character so iconic.

The colors are bold, direct, and unapologetic: orange, purple, green, and red stand side by side, creating an effect that cannot be overlooked.

Fascination of an opponent

The Joker stands for that which cannot be controlled. Not a quest for power or wealth, but a deliberate game of chaos and anarchy. His unpredictability is what makes him so effective – and a character that has been present in comics, films and games for decades. However, the Joker is also seen as an expression of social aberrations, a broken individual who represents the abysses of the human psyche.

This tension between fascination and revulsion is what makes ARTHUR so interesting. It is not pleasing, defies clear categorization and cannot be pigeonholed – and this is precisely where its strength lies.

The second brood
Special edition ODD BIRDS

The second brood

In the summer of 2019, Stani Jan Borowski’s ODD BIRDS hatched successfully from glowing glass for the very first time. In 2020, a second brood of charismatic characters followed—each one falling out of the societal nest of “normality.” All of them are outsiders, outcasts, misunderstood, black sheep or eccentrics who made it to world fame. They captivate us, fascinate us and move us. Why? Perhaps because they ask us to stand by ourselves and courageously go our own way.

Here you can see the video produced by Stani Jan Borowski in the glass manufactory for the presentation of his "second brood".

Manual Work

Exclusive Glass Art from Borowski Glassworks: Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Innovation Combined

Each object shown here embodies the craftsmanship of our glassmakers. Behind each of the objects that appear so light, cheerful and colorful is a complex, often sweaty manufacturing process. Today only a few people or manufactories master the old, demanding craft of the glassmaker.

In the Borowski Glass Studio you can work with almost all known techniques of cold and hot glass processing - this enables the artists to realize challenging visions and constant new, experimental ideas.

The three brothers Stani-Jan, Wiktor and Pawel Borowski learned how to use the glass pipe and the glowing material from scratch. While Wiktor mainly takes care of sales, Pawel and Stani-Jan work in the factory on site every day at the glass furnace.

Mouth-blown and traditionally handcrafted glass objects may have minor color and shape deviations that are unavoidable for manufacturing reasons. Air inclusions in the glass are a sign of the handmade product and should not be regarded as a defect. There may be deviations of a few centimeters in the size specifications.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When fastening your object, you should make sure that it stands securely and does not wibble or tip over, even in wind or knocks. Use the mounting eyelets we provide for this purpose. Position your object so that it is safe from falling rocks or braking branches. Keep in mind that the objects are very heavy due to their quality and protruding parts (e.g. beaks, eyes, ears, tails, crowns) are not suitable as handles.
